Perfecting Imperfection

That's how I'd rank this haircut.  A 7.5 out of 10 - with 1 being the worst haircut I have ever had in my entire life (think short hair, perm and crazy short bangs teased to the tippy top) and 10 being an unrealistic haircut that I've always dreamed of having (think Meg Ryan in City of Angels).  So really, 7.5 is pretty darn good.  Plus, I haven't washed and styled it myself, yet...so there is the possibility I will like it even more once I've had time to play around with it.  You wanna see it?  I know...I know...of COURSE you do - but . . . you see . . . I don't like pictures of me.  Oh...okay...geeze - here is 1 out of the 50 I took trying to find one that I liked. (BTW -  I don't like it either, but I was starting to get a little tired of trying)


I'm not even sure you can see my haircut...but oh well...I like it and I'm sure that a non-posed picture of me will end up on here at some point that will show it off better. 

Okay - onward...I have about 6 topics for blogs running around in my head...and I can't pick one.  However, I really don't feel like being serious today - as if my kissy-face picture didn't tip you off to that one - so I'm not going to write about anything too deep.  Let's talk about...TV.

What TV shows do you watch?  We watch:

Nurse Jackie - (Edie Falco is awesome)
United States of Tara (Toni Collette is AMAZING as Tara)
Dexter (although I very well may be tuning out because the ending devastated me last season)
Spartacus: Blood and Sand (yep...I'm admitting it...just don't tell anyone, ok?)
Glee (Did you see Neil Patrick Harris is on the next Glee?  YAY!!!)
Community (LOVE me some Joel McHale!)
and finally...the one that has consumed me for the past week...

Flash Forward

We watched the first half of the season telling ourselves that we weren't going to get into one of these shows that confuses you and doesn't give you any answers...but we couldn't stop watching. (me in part because I LOVE me some Joseph Fiennes - he had me since Shakespeare in Love) 

We had our DVR set to record it so we wouldn't miss any episodes...then the second half of this season started AFTER we switched to cable and never reset our DVR to tape it.  About 2 weeks ago, I was reading a friend's Facebook status about Flash Forward and it hit me!  We were about 8 episodes behind!  (this is where I tell you that I love the internet...because thanks to the internet I was able to catch up on all 8 episodes!)

So - we are now caught up and I'm kind of disappointed because now I have to wait every week like everyone else to find out what is going on. 

Can I tell you the best part about having to catch up on all of those episodes on our laptops?  I got to watch TV in bed with Jerry...we don't have a TV in our room and I'm not sure that I want one, but having a legit excuse to lay in bed, snuggled up next to my DH and watch some TV was kind of nice.

Okay - done rambling for now...but I would like to hear from you all.  Can you tell me what your favorite TV show is?  Do you watch any of the ones I watch?  Have a favorite episode?  Watch a lot of TV or are you too busy for it?  I can honestly say that if we didn't have the DVR and On-Demand we wouldn't watch anything but hockey!  hehehe

 

I love Peter Krause.  I loved him when he played Nate Fisher in Six Feet Under.  I loved him in The Lost Room ~ which my dad actually had me start watching.  He was good in Dirty Sexy Money, but I wasn’t a fan of the show otherwise.  He’s the reason I started watching Parenthood – and I’m really loving his role in it and the show in general. 

I was a little worried that I wasn’t going to like the show after the pilot.  There was too much drama and not enough comedy.  I was hoping it would have a nice balance – but all the things that started going downhill at first made me nervous that this show was just going to be one more thing that reminds me that life doesn’t always work out the way you plan.  I don’t need a TV show to tell me that things go wrong, the unexpected happens and people with the best of intentions aren’t always able to hold true to their promises.  Life isn’t easy – but I didn’t want a TV show to remind me of that and shove it down my throat.  I’ve warmed up to the show, though. 

There is still more drama than comedy.  There are still a lot of reminders of how life doesn’t always turn out the way we want or the way we planned.  However, there are also more of those, “THIS is what it’s all about” moments.    Like one of the last scene’s last night – the whole family (differences aside) was together supporting Peter’s character and his family as they waited for a really important call about his son being admitted to a special school – he was recently diagnosed with Aspergers.  When the call came – they celebrated together!  It was one of those moments when everyone is happy…those are the kind of moments I want in my TV shows.

Without getting too personal – my extended family isn’t the way I imaged it was going to be when I was growing up.  My sister has been dealt a really bad deal health wise – she and her husband – and it’s made a lot of things out of the question.  For example, I can’t just meet my sister at the mall to let the kids play in the playground for a little bit.  My sister has MS and she is in a wheelchair.  She doesn’t drive.  She walks short distances with a walker.  It’s hard on everyone – especially her.  She has a beautiful 3 year old daughter who loves to play with my kids. (and fight with them…because isn’t that what cousins do?)  That’s just my sister – we won’t even get into what’s going on with other members of both mine and Jerry’s family.

It seems, as of late, that my family just doesn’t have a lot of those, “THIS is what it is about” moments. It’s almost like all of our happy moments are somehow shadowed by the stuff that didn’t work out the way it was suppose to – sorry if that doesn’t make sense, but I’m not going to elaborate because it would take too long and be too upsetting.  It makes me sad.    When that happens, I really have to “force” myself to look at what I have – because I am blessed.  My children are healthy.  My children are amazing. 

Last night I had an “Ah Ha!” moment.  I realized that it’s not about me – as much – anymore.  It’s more about them.  I seriously looked at Jerry and said, “We may not be able to have that – but THEY can!” I feel a little more hopeful.  I feel like I have a new understanding of my purpose.  I will tell you that I kind of scared about it – having any kind of expectations is dangerous business…but I’m excited now, too. 

I started thinking about 4 kids…in 4 years!  4 kids…so close together. . . then I realized maybe God does know what he’s doing.  4 kids that close together just might mean they will be best friends.  They will help each other through things.  They will lean on each other.  They will be there for each other.  They will have lives full of those, “THIS is what it is about” moments together.  They may drive me crazy now – but maybe the fact that they are so close together will really be a tremendous blessing in the future.

I'm taking it as a sign that I am getting older and my tastes are maturing that I find this man incredibly sexy.
Because, to be completely honest with you, he isn't really my type. I'm more of the Orlando Bloom/Keanu Reeves/(and embarrassingly) David Cook type. I think those are the last 3 big celebrity crushes I've had in the past 4 years. My all time biggest celebrity crush - David Duchovny. It was kind of fueled again by the series Californiacation (which I can't decide if I like because it's entertaining or because Duchovny is always having sex in it) and all the stories about Duchovny going into rehab for a sex addiction and then splitting from his long time wife, Tia. So...now he's avaliable again.

All that being said - those celebrities above (Duchovny being a bit of an exception) are more of "girl" crushes. Where as Daniel Craig...I feel like it's the first celebrity crush I've had that my 14 year-old niece would go, "EW!" but he makes me feel all warm and tingly. I won't lie...it's the Bond movie that did it for me. The scenes when he's wearing his bathing suit...ahhh. The accent, the body, the eyes...yummy.

Where is all this coming from? I don't know. I was just thinking about it after seeing a picture of him this morning. For about 15 seconds I forgot that in reality I'm in my bathrobe, sitting next to my neighbor's sleeping infant, and watching my 3 year-old and her 2 year-old run laps from the livingroom to the kitchen to the dining room...it was nice...while it lasted. Back to reality.

It's Peter Billingsley. Who is Peter Billingsley you ask - let me put it to you this way... he obviously didn't shoot his eye out and I'd die to see him in a pair of pink bunny pajamas! :)

It's Ralphie from A Christmas Story! I came across an article about 12 little known facts about the movie and saw that Peter had some cameos in some recent movies...so I thought I'd look him up on IMDB. WOW! I was a little surprised he's so good looking. Not that it's that unbelievable...but they made him look like such a dork in the movie - with good reason.
